WORCESTER, Mass., May 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Citizens and
Hanover Insurance Companies today announced that Cynthia H. Young has been
named president of the companies' personal lines divisions, effective June 1.
As president, she will be responsible for all aspects of personal lines
operations and will be a member of the companies' operating committee.

industry knowledge to our company," said Frederick H. Eppinger, president and
chief executive officer of Allmerica Financial Corporation (NYSE: AFC), the
parent company to Citizens and Hanover.

Young comes to Citizens and Hanover from The Hartford Insurance Company,
where she served the last two years as Vice President of Product Management
for the company's South Central Region. In this capacity, she was responsible
for auto, homeowners and umbrella coverages sold through agency and direct
distribution channels in 22 states. Young also served as a Senior Product
Manager at The Hartford prior to this time.
From 1993 to 2001, Young held a number of senior positions at Progressive.
While at Progressive, she served in leadership roles in the company's product
management division, and was the product manager for the company's auto
insurance operations in Georgia. She also served as senior and regional
claims attorney for financial institutions directors and officers coverage,
Bankers' Blanket Bond, and Trust errors and omissions products in
Progressive's Diversified Business Group.
Before entering the insurance industry in 1993, Young was a general
litigation associate at the law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue, where she
provided legal advice and support to a number of Fortune 500 companies.
Young is an active participant in business and community affairs, having
served as a representative to Leadership Greater Hartford's Quest 2004
Program, an initiative that brings together and trains community minded
leaders to address key issues in the Greater Hartford area. She also is a
former member of the Board of Advisors of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and
has served on the Board of Advisors and Public Relations Committee of the
Georgia Insurance Information Service.
Young holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Xavier University of
Louisiana, and a juris doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame. She
is a native of Meridian, Mississippi.
