WORCESTER, Mass., May 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Hanover Insurance
Group, Inc. (NYSE: THG) announced that Neal F. Finnegan and David J. Gallitano
were elected to the company's board of directors at its annual meeting of
shareholders, held today. Finnegan, 68, is a former senior banking executive
and chairman of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts. Gallitano, 58, is a retired
senior executive who now conducts a private investment, advisory and
consulting business through his own company, Tucker, Inc.

Neal F. Finnegan
Finnegan has more than 35 years experience in the banking and financial
services industry. He most recently was president and chief executive officer
of UST Corporation, a consumer and small business lending bank, from 1993 to
2000. Previously, he served as a senior executive with Bankers Trust Company
of New York, Bowery Savings Bank, Shawmut Bank and Worcester Bancorp, Inc.
Finnegan was chairman of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts from 2000 to 2005.
He currently is a member of the Board of Directors at Citizens Capital, Inc.,
a private equity company and subsidiary of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group,
PLC; and Solutions, Inc., an IP management software provider traded on the
Toronto Stock Exchange. Finnegan also is the current chairman of the
Northeastern University Board of Trustees.
Finnegan is a graduate of Northeastern, located in Boston, Massachusetts,
where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance and insurance. He
also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Babson College,
Wellesley, Massachusetts.
David J. Gallitano
Gallitano served as chairman and chief executive officer of APW, Ltd. from
2003 to 2005. APW is a global contract manufacturing company supplying
technical products to the telecom, data-com, semi-conductor, medical, mail
handling and other industries. Prior to that, Gallitano was chairman and chief
executive officer of Columbia National, Inc., a residential and commercial
real estate financing company, from 1993 to 2002.
Between 1986 and 1993, Gallitano was executive vice president at
PaineWebber, Inc., where he headed the company's Principal Transactions Group.
Gallitano also served as president and chief executive officer of the General
Electric Mortgage Capital Corporation from 1984 to 1986. He currently serves
as a director of Wild Oats Markets, Inc., a publicly-traded supermarket chain.
Gallitano holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from George
Washington University, Washington D.C., where he received the John Henry
Cowles Prize. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from the
University of Chicago, where he was a Leon Carroll Marshall Scholar.
