In this position, Anderson will be responsible for the organization's
country-wide bond operations, which include contract surety, commercial surety
and the fidelity lines of business, as well as bond claims.
"We are excited to welcome Mary Jeanne to our team," said Alan Crater,
president of the company's specialty lines business. "With three decades of
experience in the bond industry, including many senior positions, Mary Jeanne
is an accomplished surety professional who is highly regarded in the
independent agency community and throughout the industry. We are confident
that under her leadership, we will further strengthen our bond capabilities,
helping our agent partners to meet the needs of their customers and grow their
bond businesses as we grow ours."
Anderson joins The Hanover from Arch Insurance Group/Kemper Surety, where
she was vice president and chief underwriting officer. She started her career
at Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland/Zurich North America Surety, where
she served for 24 years, rising from an underwriter trainee to senior vice
president of surety. In her new position, Anderson will relocate to Worcester,
Mass., to work from The Hanover's headquarters.
Anderson holds a juris doctor from the University of Maryland School of
Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College.
Anderson replaces Dick Van Steenburgh as vice president of The Hanover's
bond division. Van Steenburgh, who earlier this year announced plans to retire
in 2008, will serve as vice president of commercial surety, working closely
with Anderson to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.
